A Nevada MMJ Card Equals Savings, More Cannabis and Personal Care

It might be difficult to believe, but getting medical marijuana in Nevada wasn’t always as easy as it is today with NuggMD. Nevada was one of the first states to legalize medical cannabis, but only recently had a fully functioning program. Read on to learn more about how Nevada’s Medical Marijuana Cardholders/Caregivers Program came to be what it is today.

Ballot Question 9: A Medical Marijuana Initiative

Nevadans wanted medical marijuana so they created a voter initiative, Ballot Question 9, that legalized it in November of 2000. But the Nevada Medical Marijuana Cardholders/Caregivers Program wasn’t functional due to legislative and permitting issues. There was no commercial cannabis activity in Nevada until 2015 when Silver State Relief opened its doors in Sparks.

Now 2018, Nevada’s medical marijuana program is flourishing as there are dispensaries in Carson City, Henderson, Elko County, Fallon, Las Vegas, Laughlin, Mesquite, Pahrump, Primm, Reno, and Yerington.

Ballot Question 2: An Initiative for All Marijuana Users

Ballot Question 2 legalized adult-use cannabis for those 21 and older, provided they have valid government I.D. or driver’s license. Ballot Question 2 also improved the MMJ program’s infrastructure and provided patient perks.

Specifically, Ballot Question 2 transitioned the entire application process online. So, a telemedicine provider like NuggMD can help you get your mmj card without even leaving the comfort of your own home. Before you had to get your evaluation, then visit the DMV to submit paperwork. Now NuggMD connects you to a registered medical doctor via video conference. Then, once approved, their team of cannabis concierges will review your application to ensure it’s filled out properly.

Also, the maximum duration of Nevada MMJ cards was increased from 1 to 2 years. That means you won’t have to go through the application process every year!

Benefits of the Nevada Medical Marijuana Cardholders/Caregivers Program

Every Nevada MMJ patient and caregiver that receives a cannabis I.D. Card from Nevada‘s Medical Marijuana Cardholders/Caregivers Program, is entitled to all of the benefits medical marijuana has to offer, including:

  • Exemption from the 10% excise sales tax that all recreational marijuana users pay.
  • Ability to purchase and possess up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis flower.
  • The use of medical cannabis for those under 21 (note, caregivers must be 18 or over).
  • Exemption from the law that forbids cultivating cannabis in a 25-mile radius of the nearest commercial cannabis activity, and
  • The right to grow 12 plants.

How to Apply for a Nevada MMJ Card

The easiest and fastest way to apply is to visit NuggMD. Note: if you have a commercial driver’s license, provide false information or have been convicted of selling drugs, you cannot qualify for the state program.
