The avocado — a fruit often mistaken for a vegetable and beloved by hipsters, health nuts and average eaters alike.

It is a great source of vitamins C, E, K, and B-6, as well as riboflavin, niacin, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, potassium, lutein, beta-carotene, and omega-3 fatty acids.

When consistently incorporated into a diet, avocado can promote healthy skin, hair, heart, digestion and more.

Whether you like it smeared on toast or loaded on a cripsy chip, Reno-based restaurants offer up a variety of ways to celebrate National Avocado Day, which is annually observed on July 31.

Great Full Gardens / Avocado Toast

Great Full Gardens knows how to jazz up avocado toast. Piled atop a toasted multigrain ciabatta, fresh avocado is accompanied by radishes, tomato, pea shoots and drizzled in lemon oil.

Cantina / Tableside Guacamole

Try a modern twist on an old classic with Two Chick’s bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado sandwich on locally-made Great Basin Brewing Co. Icky Bread and smeared with basil aioli.
