“I picked up your magazine at Wild Oats and brought it back to the fitness center where I work. I LOVE it because everything is applicable to overall health of body/mind and should be read by everyone that walks in the fitness center. It’s packed with great information; page after page of articles about fitness, nutrition, fat loss, book reviews… anything and everything that applies specifically to the people I see everyday. The layout is beautiful and concise. I’m not even a magazine reader but I just love HB Mag and I can’t believe it’s free.”

Earth Day Around The World

By Lauren Birtwhistle

April 22 is Earth Day. How do you plan on celebrating? Well, people all around the world are stepping up and getting involved in fun and creative ways. Whether through the traditional river pick-up or a three day arts festival, participating in Earth Day is a great way to take back a few of our ecological footprints and join with others to make your community a better place to live.

Earth Day Around The World

Earth Day in Reno
Idlewild Park
It's FREE!

Calgary, Canada
Calgary is urging their communities to take on the "22 minute makeover." Ward 9, a community in Calgary, is encouraging this idea and challenging its members. The challenge is simple: Commit to taking 22 minutes out of the day to pick up litter around schools, work places and neighborhoods.

El Nido, Palawan, Philippines
April 22, 2007 in El Nido, Palawan, Philippines will celebrate Earth Day through Coastal, Canal and Limestone Cliff Trail clean-ups by the residents of the El Nido Town. Community leaders and residents will be participating in these events. Even the guests in town are encouraged to join in the effort. April 22 is also the first day of the Kalugta'n Arts Festival (or Earth Arts Festival). The theme is "Pasiglahin ang Kulay ng Kalikasan" (Brighten up the Colors our Environment/Earth). The art is focused on nature, as well as the workshops. The art workshops start on April 23-25 and offer guitar, terracotta, painting, theater, keyboard, percussion, flute, creative writing and interpretative dance lessons for participants, ages 5-40 yrs.

North Norfolk Coast, UK
North Norfolk Coast will be celebrating Earth Day through education. Deepdale Backpackers and Camping, an eco friendly backpacker's hostel and campsite, will be hosting a whole range of eco-friendly organizations for an exhibition of environmental technologies and advice. This free event is intended for both businesses and individuals interested in making their business and homes more earth friendly. The exhibition will have information about everything from solar panels to LED lights, even wind turbines. If you are looking for eco info, this is the place to be.

Can't jump on a plane? Think Reno!
Reno hosts a great Earth Day event each year at Idlewild Park. It is a free event with workshops, children's activities, a sustainable farmer's market, and much more. Spend the day along the Truckee River with other members of the community. Reno Bike Project will be offering a free bike valet service for your bike, roller blades, or skateboard. Simply drop them off in front of the California Building and receive a free raffle ticket for a New Belgium Brewery bike messenger bag with goodies. Bikes and parts can be donated to the Reno Bike Project at the Bike Valet.

Whether near or far, make sure to join people around the world on this special day. In addition to being a great chance to spend time with others in the community, the planet will thank you!
